Aleksei Martyniuk

To You from Me

About the Item

The video work "To You from Me" is an experimental work based on neural networks, sound and poetry. To create the visual part, the Disco Diffusion neural network was used, which generates images according to a text description. They were the description of the forest and the man in it, the German painter Karl Spitzweg and director Hayao Miyazaki were also mentioned. The questions that concern Aleksei Martyniuk in this video relate to the distribution of roles in an anthropocentric world: does the forest provide its space and resources voluntarily or does a person take them away by force, is a person an initiator or just an observer of natural changes? The soundtrack was supposed to be field recordings from the forest, but they had more industrial and human sounds than natural ones. The final version was the processing of bird singing, human breathing and laptop noise. The poetic lines in the video were composed by the author and reflect on the delicate balance within the triangle "man - nature - technology":

On the snail's trail
you never fail.
Like a mushroom net
please explore the debt.
I lie in the grass
it has so much stress.
Birds sing no song
guys, am I wrong?
Rain falls on me
I hope I'm free...
